Jumpstart presents at the National Academy of Science

Founder Kate Stillwell represented Jumpstart at the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NAS) in Washington, DC on July 8-10, 2015. The NAS Resilient America Roundtable hosted an invitation-only Expert Meeting on the Role of Disaster Insurance in Improving Resilience. Kate was one of only eight invited speakers on earthquake insurance, alongside representatives from the California Earthquake Authority, Munich Re, and the Reinsurance Association of America. The event focused on how insurance, coupled with other policy tools, can keep flood and earthquake premiums affordable and send the right signals about risk. The event will inform ongoing policy recommendations at the national level, and findings will be applied in the Roundtable’s Community Resilience Pilot Projects in Seattle, Washington; Charleston, South Carolina; and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which engage decision makers and citizens to understand risk and build resilience.
